The Community Fund of Bronxville
Eastchester Tuckahoe, Inc.’s 24th Annual Golf Outing
proved to be a tremendous success, which is a fitting way to end
the Fund’s celebration of its 90th Anniversary year.
At Siwanoy Country Club, 120 enthusiastic golfers enjoyed a
tremendous day of golf, camaraderie and good will.
Started in
1987 by now-retired local businessman Markham Rollins, Jr. and
his two sons, Mark and Chuck, this community event has been an
eagerly-awaited happening each year. While the outing always
provides an enjoyable day, it is important to remember the vital
role it plays in the community – that of providing financial
support for grants to critical social service agencies and
projects in the Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe
communities.
The funds raised by the outing have
helped more than double Community Fund grants over the years
from a level of $240,000 in 1987 to over $520,000 in 2009. “This
outing makes a real difference to our entire community.” Tracy
Rutherfurd, Executive Director emphasized. “The net proceeds go
directly to help fund grants to the Bronxville, Eastchester,
Tuckahoe communities. These funds help our youth, our seniors,
and our families from after-school care programs to senior
centers, from teen centers to drug and alcohol prevention and
rehabilitation programs, Counseling Services and so much more!“
The event began with lunch and the
putting contest qualifying round. The thirty foursomes then
headed out for a round of golf, scramble format, complete with
prizes and holes-in-one contests sponsored by Pepe Auto Group
and by Comizio Orthodontics. A Mercedes-Benz SLK350,
Mercedes-Benz E Coupe, Porsche Boxster and Infiniti M37X
provided by Pepe Auto Group graced the Siwanoy acreage tempting
the golfers as they passed.
Each year, Comizio Orthodontics and the Pepe Auto Group sponsor
hole-in-one prizes as part of the tournament. To date no one
has claimed the $10,000 or one of the shining cars on the
course. “We would love to have someone win a car this year!” Sal
Pepe, of Pepe Auto Group, also one of the Outing’s Grand
Sponsors, enthusiastically stated before the shot gun start.
“The First Place Winning Team” of golfers included Fred Hood,
Gary Erskine, Jonathan Kitchen and Julian Stein. “Second Place”
was taken by Omar Abboud, Scott Burge, Dave Harris and John
Westerfield. The “Closest to the Pin” competition was won by
Gary Erskine. “Most Accurate Drive” went to Mario Forgione and
the “Longest Drive” competitions were won by Peter Munsill for
the men and Liza Near for the women. The winner of the Putting
Contest was Richard Leroy who made a valiant attempt at the
$2500 cash prize putt!
Fred Taylor, 2010 Golf Co-Chair, ran
the Live Auction, providing much entertainment with a healthy
display of competition during the bidding, while others waited
to see their luck with the Raffle and Silent Auction. Donations
from local businesses and community members to Auction/Raffle
event, helped maximize the dollars raised with over 30 raffle
prizes and auction items, respectively. All agreed it was a
wonderful, day at Siwanoy, with an outpouring of generosity and
support for our local community programs.
The
Community Fund’s golf outing was generously sponsored by our
local community supporters. Grand Sponsors were the Pepe
Auto Group, The Raffiani Family Foundation, and The Rollins
