The Community Fund of Bronxville Eastchester Tuckahoe Inc. at its Annual Meeting voted an allocation of $523,525 in community grants to be awarded in 2010- 2011 recognizing the increasing social service needs within the Eastchester Township. The grants will help support over 30 local community social service agencies and community projects. The meeting held at Siwanoy Country Club on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 was attended by over 50 community members and The Community Fund Board.
Nick Stephens, 2009-2010 President of The Community Fund, thanked all donors of both the Annual Campaign and Golf Outing. Our community needs the Community Fund – and your continued support of the agencies we fund more than ever. The current difficult economic environment has affected them all in some way. This year we are pleased to be able to grant $523,525 in support of all the good work they do.” (See attached for complete list of Grants, effective July 1, 2010)
Romy Coquillette and Gayle Haller, Co-Chairs of the Evaluation Committee, expressed their appreciation to the 46 Community Fund volunteer evaluators and to the agencies themselves. “The grants from The Community Fund are critical to keeping our local social service agencies healthy. We appreciate the great work the Agencies do throughout Eastchester Township and all the donors who make this possible. We applaud the committee of 46 volunteer evaluators for their work in evaluating and supporting the applicants.”
The grants will continue to support services for Seniors at all three senior centers and Gramatan Village; health services and support from Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps (EVAC), Lawrence Hospital, the Cancer Support Team, the Bereavement Center and Westchester End of Life Coalition; Drug, alcohol and mental health counseling and prevention programs from the Counseling Center, Victims Assistance Services, Eastchester and Tuckahoe D.A.R.E., Juvenile Law Education Project and Maxwell Institute; College counseling and support for “at-risk” students from College Careers and Destination College; Youth Programs from Bronxville Youth Council, Concordia Conservatory’s Musical Adventures at the Library, Eastchester Child Development Center , Eastchester Community Action Program, Eastchester Youth Council Summer Theater, Eastchester Teen Scene, Heartsong, South East Consortium for Special Services and Tuckahoe Police’s Youth Programs among others. The Community Fund has a strong collaborative partnership with its member agencies and community projects providing technical, financial, marketing and fund-raising support.
This fall the Community Fund will again partner with Lawrence Hospital for the Community Flu Shot Program recognizing their long-standing relationship of community support. The Community Fund began in 1919 to support Lawrence Hospital during the Flu Epidemic and address local community needs at the time. The Fund has been supporting vital social services in the Eastchester Township community ever since. The strength and continuity of The Community Fund’s efforts on behalf of the Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe community are important to ensuring the social service safety net is in place for everyone.
Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Community Fund High School Awards. These awards to local graduating seniors are made in memory of Michael Frey and in appreciation for all the support the community receives from its dedicated police, fire and other emergency workers. Students are chosen based on their community leadership and dedication to the community. This year the recipients are Cassandra Past, Nat Recine and Robert Mahlman from Bronxville High School; Nicholas Parisi, Michael Ryan and David Schonborg from Eastchester High School; and Dina Marie Moss, Anthony Poli, Nicholas Poli from Tuckahoe High School.
Executive Director, Tracy Rutherfurd, in granting the awards, mentioned that “This is a very special privilege for The Community Fund each year. Seeing such wonderful students who demonstrate a real commitment to their community is inspiring and makes The Community Fund proud to recognize the next generation of dedicated community members.”
