Bronxville Youth
Council Opportunities: Students volunteer for opportunities such as mentoring at Andrus children’s residence, staffing SE Consortium basketball games, delivering food to NYC homeless to homebound seniors, helping at Westhab playgroups for children of battered women, organizing Village Halloween parade. Cancer Support Team Opportunities: Transporting patients to medical appointments, friendly visiting, assisting with office and fund raising tasks. Skills/Experience: None Required. Training: Orientation and training provided. Time commitment: Flexible.
College Careers Fund of
Westchester, Inc. College Careers provides post-secondary educational counseling and services to underprivileged youth. Opportunities: Administrative assistance, publicity and student follow-up services Skills/Experience: Administrative, public relations, fund-raising and program services skills. Training: Provided. Eastchester Citizen Corps. Opportunities: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) leader or member, administrator, safety educator, recruitment volunteer or organizer. Club Opportunities: Community volunteer programs and social service activities. Skills/Experience: No special skills required. Training: No special training necessary. Time commitment: Meetings are held twice-a-month, in the evenings. References Required: No.
Eastchester Senior Nutrition Program Opportunities: Deliver hot noontime meals to homebound elderly Monday through Friday. Skills/Experience: Valid NYS driver’s license required. Training: None required. Time commitment: 10:45 to 12:00 Noon, once a week or more. References Required: Yes.
Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps (EVAC) Opportunities: Assist EMTs and Paramedics in delivering emergency medical treatment to the sick and injured. Skills/Experience: None required. Training: CPR and First Aid provided by EVAC if needed. Time commitment: Flexible, however there is a minimum of 24 hours per month. References Required: No.
Fessenden House Opportunities: Help with transporting residents to and from medical appointments, etc. Skills/Experience: Experience with people who are mentally ill or who have medical problems. Heartsong, Inc. Opportunities: Volunteers assist therapists in helping to maximize each child’s potential through "hand over hand" support and gentle prodding. Skills/Experience: None required. Training: One formal training session per semester with weekly training with therapists. Time commitment: Minimum one hour per Saturday for 15 sessions Sept through Dec or Jan through June. Junior League of Bronxville Opportunities: Volunteer service within the League and through outreach programs,including The Bereavement Center, Greyston, Headstart, Wartburg,and Eastchester Community Action Program, among others. Skills/Experience: No professional skills needed only a desire to get involved. Training: A provisional training course to prepare members for effective community and league involvement. Services- Juvenile
Delinquency Prevention Program Opportunities: Lead workshops for middle school children in districts throughout Westchester on the rights and responsibilities of young adolescents. Skills/Experience: No legal background required. Must be able to relate to and enjoy working with children. Training: Two-hour training session plus program and classroom observation. Westchester, Inc. (LVWC) Opportunities: One-on-one & small group tutoring of adults who cannot read or speak. English. South East Consortium For Special Services Opportunities: Energetic people needed to aid in programs and office. Skills/Experience: Experience working with the disabled is a plus.
